A modern workspace setup showing a course creator planning their content – best way to create a course.

Introduction

If you’re trying to find the best way to create a course, you’re not alone. Many creators struggle with where to start, what tools to use, or how to structure their lessons. In this guide, I’ll share the exact process I used to build and sell my first course—without being overwhelmed or needing a huge budget.

1. Start With the Right Idea
Your course needs to solve a clear problem for a specific audience. I always recommend choosing a topic where you already have experience and a story to tell. This gives your content authority and keeps it engaging.

2. Outline First, Don’t Overbuild
Don’t get stuck creating hours of video before validating your idea. I create a simple outline—an intro, 3–5 core lessons, and a wrap-up. I then use that outline to create a basic slide deck and test it with a small group.

3. Record in Batches
I record all my lessons in one or two days. Keep things simple: use Zoom, Loom, or ScreenPal. You don’t need fancy editing to provide value—your voice and screen are enough.

4. Upload to a Course Platform
Once recorded, I upload my videos to a platform like System.io or Teachable. These tools make it easy to create a simple course funnel and start collecting emails or payments.

5. Add an Email Nurture Sequence
A huge part of selling a course is email. I add a simple 3–5 email sequence to nurture new leads. This builds trust and naturally leads into my course offer. You can see how I build email sequences here.

6. Repurpose the Content
I take the main video lessons and repurpose them into YouTube Shorts, blog posts, or social posts. This helps reach more people and drive traffic back to my course landing page. Read more about content repurposing here.

Final Tip
The best way to create a course isn’t to overthink—it’s to start small, test your ideas, and build momentum. Done is better than perfect.
